01 Photovoltaic glass and power generation glass
The so-called photovoltaic glass is a kind of supporting glass product used to make photovoltaic cell components.
Of course, glass cannot generate electricity directly, as is photovoltaic glass.
Therefore, from a conceptual point of view, photovoltaic glass refers to a main raw material of photovoltaic modules, a low-iron glass; and power generation glass refers to photovoltaic glass with components such as power generation films or power generation silicon panels.
Therefore, we can understand here that photovoltaic glass cannot generate electricity. After all, a glass is not so high-end that it can generate electricity.

Thin film battery production equipment, usually the following power generation principle:
Dye Minhua battery DSSC, cadmium telluride thin film battery CDTe, copper indium gallium diselenide battery CIS/CIGS, amorphous silicon battery equipment. Among them, cadmium telluride thin film batteries are relatively mature in China and have high photoelectric conversion efficiency.

Photovoltaic glass cannot generate electricity, and needs various components to cooperate to generate electricity.
02 When we talk about the concept of "power generation glass", what are we actually talking about?
Therefore, when we are habitually or misled to say so-called power generation glass, we are actually talking about photovoltaic glass products with crystalline silicon cells or thin film cells.
Therefore, strictly speaking, there is no so-called "power generation glass" at present.
Taking cadmium telluride power generation glass as an example, it is coated with a layer of cadmium telluride photoelectric material with a thickness of 4 microns on ordinary insulating glass, which is equivalent to 1% of the diameter of a human hair. These coatings are actually Many amorphous silicon thin-film solar cells connected in series have the same relationship with sunlight as rechargeable batteries and alternating current for charging. The coating is like the rechargeable batteries we usually use, and sunlight is like a battery When the alternating current is charged, when sunlight hits the "power-generating glass", the glass will start to generate electricity. This is the same reason that the rechargeable battery starts to charge after it is plugged in.
Of course, the power generation glass made by crystalline silicon cells also has a similar power generation principle. It's just that crystalline silicon cells can't be made so tiny and ultra-thin, so they will be a little bulkier.
However, from the mainstream point of view, the current so-called power generation glass is a product series mainly based on crystalline silicon cells and centered on double-glass modules. For cadmium telluride power generation glass, there are not many mature domestic enterprises, only a few products such as Longyan Energy have entered the market.
From the perspective of the maturity of the product series and the market share, module products based on crystalline silicon materials probably occupy more than 85% of the photovoltaic market, while thin film battery modules such as cadmium telluride account for no more than 15% of the market share .
What is the photoelectric conversion efficiency of power generation glass?
Calculated by a single piece of "power generation glass" with a length of 1.6 meters and a width of 1.2 meters, its photoelectric conversion efficiency can reach 17.8%, and it can generate 240 to 270 kWh of electricity a year. The average rural family only needs 4-5 pieces of this. The "power-generating glass" can basically meet the electricity consumption of a family for a year.
